About the Commission
Some of the functions of the Planning Commission in the City of Troy government are to:
- Review and update the Growth Management Plan, planning, zoning ordinances, and review of subdivision plats
- Review applications for rezoning
- Conduct hearings on rezoning
- Make recommendations to the City Council concerning these matters
Application forms for rezoning of property and other information are available at the Building and Zoning Office. Hearings for rezoning are scheduled as the Building and Zoning Office personnel receive the requests. All hearing notices are published in the legal section of local newspapers, mainly the Times Tribune, and must be published a minimum of 15 days but not more than 30 days prior to the date of the hearing.
Persons who wish to give evidence in favor of, or against the granting of a rezoning of property or amendment to the Zoning Ordinance should attend the hearing prepared to present their evidence. The Planning Commission does not make the final decision on the rezoning of property. That is the sole responsibility of the City Council.
The Planning Commission normally presents their recommendation(s) to the City Council at the Council meeting following the Planning Commission hearing. Interested persons are strongly encouraged to attend this Council meeting.
